About WRC

The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) of the University of Michigan-Dearborn was launched in April 2003 to serve the needs of women students, staff, faculty, and community members in response to a perceived need of faculty and staff.  The center is a division of Enrollment Management and Student Life (EMSL) under the supervision of Vice Chancellor Stanley Henderson and is staffed by Director Monica Porter, Ph.D., Program Coordinator Shareia Carter, M.L.S., Program Assistant Lee Savage, M.P.A., Administrative Assistant Sandy Wrobel, and several student assistants and volunteers. The WRC serves as a resource and referral center and provides programming to assist students, faculty, staff, and community members in fulfilling their education and life goals.

The mission of the Women’s Resource Center is:

  • To work as a coordinating agent to address the issues, needs and goals of all women students, staff, faculty, and community to improve gender relations on and off campus.

The goals of the Women’s Resource Center are:

  • To provide programming, information and referrals to help all members of the campus community to balance the complex demands of school, work and life.
  • To encourage students to realize their academic and post-graduate goals.
  • To advocate for institutional attention to policies and practices that have an impact on women in order to enhance the quality of life for all members of the university community.
  • To create communication among diverse groups that address gender issues.
  • To create community by providing a place for students, faculty and staff to interact in formal and informal gatherings.
  • To coordinate and encourage research on gender issues in the classroom and in the community.
