UM-Dearborn campus will host town-hall on "American Power and Global Security" on Oct. 14

DEARBORN---The University of Michigan-Dearborn campus is one of 25 venues across the country to host a town-hall meeting to discuss America's role in the world this fall.

The UM-Dearborn session will be held at 7 p.m. in the campus's University Center on Oct. 14

The discussion is sponsored by a broad non-partisan coalition to increase public involvement in discussion of critical global issues. The coalition, called "The People Speak," includes the United Nations Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute, the Brookings Institution, the League of Women Voters, Rock the Vote and more than a dozen other groups.

ABC News personalities will serve as moderators for all of the discussions. Robin Roberts, the news anchor of "Good Morning America," will moderate the session in Dearborn.

The UM-Dearborn discussion, focusing on "American Power and Global Security," also will include scholars and journalists in a panel discussion. In addition to UM-Dearborn students, the audience will include guests from other schools in the region as well as members of the community.

Topics that are likely to be covered during the discussion include foreign perceptions of the United States, America's diplomatic priorities, and the global struggle with terrorism.

Local sponsorship is provided by the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services, the Ford Motor Company and the Forum for Innovative Leadership, a consortium of the Detroit Regional Chamber, The Henry Ford and The University of Michigan-Dearborn.

For more information on this program and other activities sponsored by The People Speak, see the Web site at www.ThePeopleSpeak.org.
