Streeter scholarship will help students in MIS
program
DEARBORN---UM-Dearborn's School
of Management has established an endowment scholarship in the name
of emeritus faculty member Victor J. Streeter.
The fund, called the Victor J. Streeter Endowed Management Information Systems (MIS) Scholarship, was created with a gift of $34,000.
The scholarship will help perpetuate the strength of the Management Information Systems program and provide incentives that encourage academic excellence and high integrity, according to Dean Gary Waissi.
In order to be eligible, School of Management students must have completed at least three MIS courses at the 300 level or above. Scholarship awards will be made to students who ordinarily possess the highest MIS grade point average among the pool of scholarship candidates at the time of the scholarship award and who have demonstrated high integrity.
"I've been on the campus for quite a long time, have been involved in developing courses, creating and adding programs, and I'd like to do what I can to encourage growth and recognize academic achievement in the MIS program," Streeter said. "Many students work very hard balancing academic, job, and family responsibilities. It's important to have incentives for those students who achieve excellence in the midst of rather staggering duties, because they carry those characteristics into the workplace.
"Also, I know that the School of Management is in the planning stages for a new fund-raising campaign to address vital issues such as endowment for students, faculty and programs. I want mine to be an early gift in the campaign, and I hope others will follow," Streeter said.
"As a dedicated educator, Professor Streeter is keenly aware that it often takes support and encouragement from others to be successful," said Waissi. "The Victor J. Streeter Endowed Management Information Systems Scholarship has been designed to reward top MIS students. This kind of incentive will have an enduring impact on our MIS program, and ultimately the business community. I believe it is a very fitting legacy reflecting Professor Streeter's outstanding commitment to his field."
The School of Management currently serves more than 850 students per
year and now has more than 6,500 alumni. The School's undergraduate and
graduate programs are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate
Schools of Business International. Only 25 percent of business schools
nationwide are accredited by AACSB International.
