Prof. Maureen Linker named Susan B. Anthony award recipient

DEARBORN---Maureen Linker, associate professor of philosophy and director
of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at the University of Michigan-Dearborn,
has been chosen by the campus's Commission for Women as the recipient
of the 28th annual Susan B. Anthony award.
The annual award recognizes a member of the campus community who has
made significant contributions to gender equality.
A ceremony honoring Linker will take place at the University Center's
Kochoff Hall on Thursday, March 23, beginning with a reception and silent
auction at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The evening's guest speaker will
be Shirley R. Stancato, president and CEO of New Detroit.
"Maureen is described as 'the hardest working advocate for women's
equity' at UM-Dearborn, being both chair of Women's and Gender Studies
and the co-chair of the Agenda for Women in the same year, which is unprecedented,"
according to Prof. Timothy McKenna, who serves on UM-Dearborn's Commission
for Women. "The commission is happy to acknowledge the exceptionally
strong advocate for women that Maureen is and has been for our campus."
In addition to her duties as director of the Women's and Gender Studies
Program and co-chair of the Agenda for Women, Linker is a member of the
Child Development Center's steering committee, spending numerous hours
on fundraising and other activities for the CDC. She also volunteers her
time to teach women's studies to prisoners at the Robert Scott Correctional
Facility in Plymouth, as well as mentor many female students at UM-Dearborn.
Linker serves on the executive council of the Department of Humanities,
as well as the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters executive committee.
Her research focuses on gender and knowledge production, the ethics of
care and the field of feminist epistemology.
Linker joined the UM-Dearborn faculty as assistant professor of philosophy
in 1996 and was promoted to associate professor in 2002.
Linker received her bachelor's and doctoral degrees from the City University of New York.
