Environmental Interpretive Center offers naturalist program

DEARBORN---The Environmental Interpretive Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is accepting registration for its 2003-2004 Young Naturalist Program, a year-round study of the natural world for children ages 9 through 12.

Program sessions, which are held once a month September through June, give participants a chance to combine experiences in the outdoor classroom with indoor laboratory investigations using microscopes and other tools of science. The program calendar is as follows:

  • Sept. 27 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon -- Pond Study
  • Oct. 11 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon - Soil Creatures
  • Nov. 7 -- 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. -- Owl Program
  • Dec. 6 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon -- Tree Detectives
  • Jan. 10 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon - Pawprint Signatures
  • Feb. 7 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon -- Life Beneath the Ice
  • March 6 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon -- Maple Sugaring
  • April 10 -- 9 a.m. to noon -- Mystery Field Trip
  • May 8 -- 9:30 a.m. to noon -- Birds and Migration
  • June 7 -- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Grand Hike

Each participant will receive a field pack with a journal, hand lens and field guides to use during the program. The cost of the program is $70; enrollment is limited to 30 children. To register, call (313) 583-6371.
