Money Smart Week is April 22-29
DEARBORN---The University of Michigan-Dearborn’s School of Management
will participate in Money Smart Week, a series of seminars devoted to
combat financial illiteracy and provide greater education to consumers
in southeast Michigan.
Detroit’s third annual Money Smart Week will take place April 22-29
and seven of the sessions, which are free and open to the public, will
be held at UM-Dearborn’s Fairlane Center from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 26.
The Detroit branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, along with
26 local organizations, joined together to create Money Smart Week, according
to Prof. Michael Foran, chair of UM-Dearborn’s Department of Accounting
and Finance and Money Smart project director.
Mike Callahan, School of Management internship director at UM-Dearborn,
will present “How to Go After and Land That Job” at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, April 26 in Room 126, Fairlane Center North. Callahan will
explore how to make a powerful first impression with a professionally
written resume and answer tough questions during the interview process.
He also will offer tips on searching for career opportunities.
Marshall Hunt, a tax lecturer at UM-Dearborn and director of the Volunteer
Accounting Service Team of Michigan’s tax assisting program, will
discuss ways to prepare personal income tax returns. Hunt will explore
helpful hints for individual taxpayers and offer updates on current tax
law changes.
Other presenters will discuss topics such as financial education aspects
of the Michigan Education Savings Program; tax-smart ways to save and
invest; understanding basic investment concepts; getting ready for retirement;
and a homebuyer’s seminar.
