Aviation expert John Kasarda to speak at UM-Dearborn
DEARBORN--- John Kasarda, director of the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute
of Private Enterprise and professor of information technology and e-commerce
at the University of North Carolina, will present "Aerotropolis:
Airport-Driven Economic Development" at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, April
16 at the Environmental Interpretive Center on the campus of the University
The presentation and a 5:30 p.m. welcome reception is free and
open to the public.
Kasarda is a consultant to Wayne County's Department of Jobs and
Economic Development on the Pinnacle Aeropark, an economic development
initiative in Wayne County designed to develop 1,300 acres located
south of Detroit Metro Airport into a technology park. Pinnacle
has been designated as one of eleven "Smart Zones" in
the state of Michigan and one of three NAFTA corridors in the country.
Kasarda's work, which has been extensively published, focuses on how
the economic growth of a region is linked closely to its transportation
infrastructure and within recent years, specifically to international
