Members Present: Vera Kapulak, Rima Berry-Hung, Cindy Kecskes, Judy Walker, Judy Wilson, Linda Southward, Marlene Pruitt, Rachel Buzzeo, Sharon Lobdell, Michelle Barnes, Monica Hetu, Sandie Post, and Diane Sigler
Members Absent: Belinda Soliz, Bernadette Liz and Paul Beteag

4. ANNOUNCEMENTS
4.1 Committee Reports:
4.1.1 Benefits Committee – Dental FRP – Ann Arbor and committee working on suggestions including options for retirees. Added additional cleanings for people with heart disease and diabetes and incentives for getting the cleanings done. Delta Dental is going to put in a bid.
4.1.2 University Budget Committee – The State will pay the last payment for the previous budget year. The first payment for the new budget year has already been received.
4.1.3 UMake a Difference Committee – The committee has seven awards to present. Vera Kapulak made a motion to add Rachel Buzzeo as co-chair of the UMake a Difference Committee, seconded by Sharon Lobdell. Vote: Unanimous
4.1.4 Recognition Committee – Pictures of the event have been posted in the AB.
4.1.5 Voices of Staff – A presentation was done for Voices by the Healthy Group. They are going to offer cash incentives for staying healthy. Voices is looking at career paths.
4.1.6 Public Relations Committee – Nothing to report
4.1.7 Leadership and Development Committee – Susan handed out information on the committee’s recommendations for binder content for new members and training for the December retreat.
4.1.8 Hospitality Committee – The Open Enrollment forum had 57 attend.
4.1.9 Workplace Environment Committee – Nothing to report.
4.1.10 Election Committee – Nominations will be requested for SOE, SOM and Eng October 25 – October 31st.
4.1.11 Communication Committee – The committee is meeting next week to discuss the next issue.
4.1.12 Senate Budget Recommendation Committee – The committee had the first meeting and discussed the charge of the committee. They will meet again next Tuesday.
4.1.13 Longevity Committee - Nothing to report. Belinda Soliz is the chair.
4.1.14 By-Laws Change Committee - – Met briefly last week - working on the breaking down the original paragraph.
4.2 Security Open Forum – Those who attended expected more progress. Campus Safety is working on the messaging system with Ann Arbor. Bob Behrens and Rick Gordon didn’t discuss what action they weren’t going to take based on the suggestions from the last Security Open Forum. The Senate will follow-up on those items that weren’t implemented. The Chair will prepare an email to Bob Behrens asking for information on the missing items.
4.3 Retreat - The retreat will be from 10-3 p.m. in the Fairlane Center North.
4.4 Brown Bag on Open Enrollment – The Senate and all who attended the brown bag agreed that it was very disappointing. None of our questions were answered and we were told to check the book. However, when a complaint was made to Jeff Evans he was very responsive about the complaints.
5. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION AND ACTION:
5.1 Safety Oversight Committee – The Chair was approached to provide two names fo staff members to serve on the Safety Oversight Committee. Linda Grimm volunteered to stay, and Judy Wilson volunteered to serve. A motion was made by Sharon Lobdell to reappoint Linda Grimm and proposed Judy Wilson to serve on the committee, seconded by Diane Sigler. Vote: Unanimous
6. Senate Goals - The Chair asked the Senators to read over the goals from this year and come with new items for next year for the retreat.
7. Roundtable – Rachel Buzzeo asked Staff Senate to remember the United Way Campaign.
