2007 STAFF SENATE MID-YEAR RETREAT

MEMBERS PRESENT: Sharon Lobdell, Rachel Buzzeo, Rima Berry Hung, Vera Kapulak, Judy Wilson, Belinda Soliz, Bernadette Lis, Monica Hetu, Judy Walker, Sandie Post, and Cindy Kecskes
MEMBERS ABSENT: Shelly Harris, Michelle Barnes, Diane Sigler, Paul Beteag, Linda Southward and Sandy Kulka
- What have we accomplished so far this year?
A. Heating Brown Bag
B. Public Relations - signs for Senators
C. Meeting with new hires (it was suggested that to improve meetings with new staff we should give them the leftover Staff Senate portfolios with SS accomplishments and business cards)
D. Mid-year Retreat
- Leadership Development/Team Building
-What is the identity we want to embrance.
-Do we all believe that we are leaders?
-What do Senators need to become stronger leaders:
A. Leadership
B. Fights for staff's needs
C. United front
D. Educators
E. Professionalism
F. Informers
G. Integrity
- What we wish to accomplish by year-end.
A. Letters to welcome Senators - generic with copy to Supervisor.
B. Staff Senate Representative to speak at Campus Ambassador's breakfast.
C. Senators shouls wear Senate shirts on meeting days and at events.
D. All Senate discussions have to be kept within the Senate.
E. Staff Senate signs in buildings.
F. Brown Bag 6-26-07 on ergonomics.
G. Open Forum in July o safety.
H. Elections.
I. Follow through with plans for the year.
J. Meet with flint.
K. "Talk to your Senator" Open Forum the first week in October to solicit ideas for Senate and do recruitment for Senate Elections.
L. ID Badge questionnaire before open forum.
- Email poll re: wearing ID/s
-Do we need a committee to gather these details so that we can put the findings into a report?
- Orientation of new Senators
-What needs to be included?
-How often shouldl this occur?
It was agreed that the Chair and Vice-chair should take new Senators to lunch before the December retreat to educate them about the Senate and what will take place at the retreat.
- Open Forum on Safety
-Who will be on the panel?
-What do we want to accomplish with that?
-We need to be part of the process as these new procedures are designed/implemented.
Bob behrens, Rick Gordon and Laura Drabczyk will be asked to attend. All Senators should wear their shirts and pins. We should add survey's to the tables for people to fill out on what they thought of the forum. JKW will contact all three people to see when they are available.
- Election Committee - election process for all seats on various committees.
The Election Committee agreed to come up with a process to handle Senate recommendations for other committees such as Voices, Benefits and Budget.
- Committee information for the archives.
Send information to the chair but don't include anything that you wouldn't want other people to see.
- Housekeeping and etc.
