Until the Violence Stops
A benefit performance of The
Vagina Monologues as part of the V-Day College
Campaign. Proceeds go to a local organization dedicated
to stopping violence against women and to helping victims of violence.

She and her husband struggled financially and with drugs and alcohol. While she straightened out, her husband continued to have trouble and became abusive. She credits First Step with saving her life in 2001 through advising her to cut off contact with her husband. She entered The University of Michigan-Dearborn through Women on the Move. Laura now majors in Sociology and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She has been a city of Dearborn photographer for twelve years and uses her talents to create empowering photography and to mentor girls from working-class backgrounds, "advocat[ing] for women every way [she] can". Next month, she will present a paper on gendered violence at a conference in Idaho.
