There were twenty parts that needed to be filled and more than a handful were male. As our club was shy of men, that gave me quite a bit of worry. My thanks go out to Nate, Ben, and Jason for stepping in and Jon for sticking with. A director is only as good as the people who support her; I also want to thank all my family, Mum, Dad, Tanya & Tom; My Crew: Erica, Mo, & Tami, Sprite & James. Also Joe who was always giving me encouragement. Finally, I'd like to thank Brandon for giving me a chance and the cast & crew for putting up with my indecision. Oh, and Suzanne, for not flaying me alive whenever I get to class. From the very first time I read Lysistrata, I wanted to stage it. When the Players' Club offered, I jumped on the opportunity. I looked for the loosest of translations, feeling that this would keep the playwright's intentions intact. I was also annoyed by the chorus, and the idea of constant singing, so we canned that. And, to make things really different, we decided that 1950's Greece would be way more fun than togas. So walk with us, down a different leg of the Trousers of Time, and enjoy the massacre of a tantalizing classic. Sarah A. Mollner frau direktor THANKS TO:
The Campus Writing Center Bud & Jeanice Mollner The Painting Poissons Aaron Bennet Aunt Sis Ron Pullins and All persons who have ever donated ugly green clothing to any thrift shop in southeastern Michigan. This performance is dedicated to the memory of Jacqueline Lawson (May 10, 1951 - January 8, 2001) Since arriving at UM-D in 1985, Jackie Lawson's contributions as a teacher, scholar, colleague, and friend have enriched our community beyond measure. Her gifts, both by nature and a lifetime of dedication, were wit, compassion, and a brilliant intelligence. She was a devoted teacher, and her many awards reflect her passion for the craft. Jackie was especially committed to the liberal arts and to the education of working-class students. A stalwart defender of faculty governance and academic freedom, Jackie served on numerous campus committees, as chair of SACUA, and on the board of directors of the Academic Freedom Lecture Fund. Jackie was committed to making our community a better place by speaking out against injustice. She left us far too soon. From The Dearborn Press & Guide, Richard Marsh, March 1, 2001: "The Players Club, the student theater troupe at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, is definitely a drama company on the grow. The large number of cast members director Sarah Mollner drew for last weekend's production of Lysistrata bodes well for the fledgling acting group. The cast certainly gave their all for the opening night performance of Lysistrata Friday...the actors provided the audience with an entertaining hour of drama...Leading the cast of 20 was Lauren Russette, who was marvelous as the title character. Her stage presence and body language well supplemented her dynamic dialogue delivery and character creation...Erica Marks did an excellent job with costuming to create the proper visual display without keeping everything simple." |
