Director's Note...

Tonight's performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream was a truly 'workshopped' production.  We began with the full text of the play and a 'rough and ready' cast, both of which changed throughout the rehearsal period.  At times I felt like Peter Quince because of the many difficulties (right up to and including a rained-out dress rehearsal) that we experienced during the mounting of the first theatrical production at UM-D in many years.  We began streamlining the text and production to suit the actors and our staging.  This included the last minute addition of former UM-D student, Jay Savage, to the cast in the role of Demetrius.

No single member of the cast or production team can be fully credited with direction, costume design, or makeup design.  These grew out of the production itself.  If the design seems a little too eclectic, we won't apologize because A Midsummer Night's Dream is a very diverse play.  In it, Shakespeare has pieced together bits of classical and British mythology, English workingman's jargon, and sundry thematic inspirations...as have we in this production.  So, much in the tradition of the 'rustic mechanicals,' we present for you A Midsummer Night's Dream.
