2-15-06 Saul Anuzis to Visit Campus
Following the success of Mr. Devos' visit, the Chairman of the Michigan Republican party Saul Anuzis, will make a visit to speak to students next week. Mr. Anuzis speech will take place Tuesday, February 21st at noon in Kochoff Hall C. He will speak for approximately 30-45 minutes on the Michigan economy and the job market. In addition to being an influential figure in the Michigan Republican party, he is also an alumni and one of the "Founding Fathers" for the CR group here at UMD! So he knows first hand about our unique campus.

This event and others have been posted in the Events and Meetings section of the site. We hope to see you there!

2-14-06 Dick DeVos Visit and Next Meeting
CRs with Dick DeVos

Today, Dick DeVos took the time to make an impromptu visit to personally meet with CRs and other students in the University Center. It was a great event and a great opportunity for students to meet the next governor of Michigan! The UMD-CRs would like to thank the entire student body for being pleasantly receptive to Mr. DeVos as well as Student Government for providing a forum for him to address the students in the UC. More photos of the event will be posted in this space shortly. However, if you are a member of Facebook, you can view them right now.

Also, don't forget the event this Thursday, Feburary 14th at 8:30 at Buddy's Pizza in Dearbon on Michigan Ave. We will be holding a short meeting and have dinner afterwards. Everyone will be responsible for their meal. If you plan on attending, please RSVP with the Events Committee.

2-4-06 Message from Outgoing Chairman
Attention UM-Dearborn College Republicans,

The results of the 2006 Executive Board election are now final. Your 2006 Executive Board is:

Tyler LaMarr - Chairman
Shannon Deming - Vice-Chairman
James MacKenzie - Secretary
Anthony "Tony" Corey - Treasurer

Congratulations and good luck to one and all.

It has been a very rewarding experience to have been your vice-chair (2003) and chairman (2004, 2005). Meeting so many Republicans in the local community and throughout the state on behalf of the UM-D CR's has provided me the opportunity to let everyone know that there are, indeed, Republicans at the University of Michigan - Dearborn, who are eager to be involved at all levels of government. We have worked on campaigns together, rallied against the rabid liberals on our campus, and done all that we could to further the cause of the conservative Republican movement on the campus and in our communities. I plan to remain an active member of the UM-D CR's until my graduation in April and I encourage each and every one of you to continue to support the group and become actively involved. Our group has grown by three members just in the last week and by at least 5 more since the beginning of the Fall term. Let's continue to grow and spread the word that the Republicans are here at UM-D and that we intend to stay and continue to be a force to be reckoned with.

Thank you for all of your support in the past three years. I hope to see you all at the next General Membership meeting.

Most sincerely,

Jonathan A. Mycek
Vice Chairman (2003-2004)
Chairman (2004-2006)

1-24-06 UMD-CR Candidate Introductions
The following are the names of the candidates for the 2006 UMD-CR Executive Board along with a short paragraph of introduction.
Tyler LaMarr -- Candidate for Chairman

My name is Tyler LaMarr, and I am running for Chairman of the UM-D College Republicans. I am a fourth-year student, majoring in English Literature and Philosophy, with a minor in Business Management. Upon graduation, I plan to attend law school. During the past year I have served as Treasurer for the CRs, gaining crucial Executive Board experience, and I feel well-prepared to helm the office of Chairman for the upcoming term. If elected, I plan to focus my attention on overall growth, Executive Board and Committee responsibility, fostering student organization relations, encouraging membership participation, and improving the CR image on campus. Thank you for your nomination, and I would greatly appreciate your vote this February.

Shannon Deming -- Candidate for Vice-Chairman

Hi! My name is Shannon Deming and I am the current Vice-Chair of the UMD College Republicans, seeking re-election. Over the past year in office, I have not only seen but helped this group grow tremendously, and hope to stay in office for another year to do the same. I also worked with the current e-board on drafting revisions to the current UMD CR constitution, which I hope to finish this coming year and put into action. In addition, this coming year, I hope to work with the new e-board in bringing guest speakers to campus, and getting our name out there more. Vote for me in 2006 and all your wildest dreams will come true!

James MacKenzie -- Candidate for Secretary

My name is James MacKenzie and I am running for Secretary of the University of Michigan-Dearborn College Republicans. I am majoring in Political Science and International Affairs. I am running for Secretary, not only because of my deep interest in politics, but I believe I can contribute to this group. I believe that I am up to the tasks of which the secretary is required. These tasks include recording minutes of the meetings and producing publications of the group among other things. As secretary, I believe that I can help in furthering our goals on campus which include increasing the group's membership and supporting Republican candidates. This year is an election year and I believe I am ready to serve both the group and the Republican Party. I am asking you, the members of this group, to entrust me with the secretary position and I will do my best not to disappoint you.

Tony Corey -- Candidate for Treasurer

My name is Tony Corey and I am a sophomore, majoring in Marketing. I am seeking the position of Treasurer of the College Republicans. I am seeking this position to continue the longstanding traditions of not only the University of Michigan-Dearborn College Republicans but also the Republican party in general. I will work hard with my fellow executive board members along with the general membership to keep the CRs a valuable voice and resource on campus.

*UPDATE* 1-12-06 UMD-CR Flyers
Happy New Year! The UMD-CR's are gearing up for an exciting election year here in Michigan and we're going to need all the help we can get. Getting recruits and interest in the club is therefore very important. So we will start off with our friendly flyer 'contest'. A group of CR's have submitted some great ideas for flyers. You can view them here and then vote on your favorite during the next General Meeting (TBA). The flyers are as follows:

Joshua Hunter

James MacKenzie Justin Morton Jonathan Mycek The posters submitted above on the UM-D CR Website are in no way the official views of the University of Michigan-Dearborn or the University of Michigan-Dearborn College Republicans. All poster submissions reflect the views of the individual creators.

Flyers are a simple but critical way in getting new members and displaying our presence on campus. So at the next meeting make sure to vote for your favorite!
