"Personal Growth and Improvement"
This portfolio component will ask you to reflect upon your learning in each
of the required science content courses (NSCI 231, 232, 233).
You will create a separate portfolio component for each of the content
courses.
For example, if you are enrolled in NSCI 233, you are to think of a
biology concept that was covered in the course and describe your previous lack
of understanding (or lack of any knowledge) of the concept and how you now
have a correct understanding of the concept.
Your document should include:
A statement of the specific concept
A clear statement of misconception or lack of knowledge
A description of your current, scientifically correct knowledge or
understanding
Complete citations of any specific references used
You may use additional resources in addition to the course text, CD-ROM and
web pages. If you use resources other than those, please provide complete
citation (APA or MLA) bibliographic citation. See the UM-D library
resources web page for information about either of these bibliographic
formats. The URL is http://libraryweb.umd.umich.edu/lib/handouts/index.html
(scroll to the middle of the page, "Citing Sources").
In addition your component will be evaluated upon the quality of writing,
whether the minimum length requirements were met and relevancy of concept to
course (i.e. misconceptions must be related to the course content).
Like the other components, this one must be submitted as an html
document.
The minimum length is one page, which translates to approximately 500
words.
The document must be in 12 point font.
See rubric for details of how the
grade will be determined.
