Rubric for "Science Resources" component of the Science Education Portfolio (SEP)

 

Based on a 20 point maximum

  1. Fifteen science education related resources (0-3 points)

3 points: Fifteen resources that clearly relate to science teaching are included in the bibliography

2 points: Fourteen resources that clearly relate to science teaching are included in the bibliography

1 point: Less than fourteen resources that clearly relate to science teaching are included in the bibliography

0 points:  Multiple resources are lacking or the resources present do not relate to teaching science at the elementary or middle school level

  

2. Description of resources (0-3 points)

3 points: All resources are clearly and sufficiently described in general

2 points: Most resources are clearly and sufficiently described in general

1 point: Many resources are clearly and sufficiently described in general

0 points: Most resources are not clearly or sufficiently described in general

 

3. Descriptions of resource use in classroom (0-2 points)

2 points: All resources are clearly and sufficiently described regarding how they would be used in a classroom setting

1 point: Most resources are clearly and sufficiently described regarding how they would be used in a classroom setting

0 points: Many resources are not clearly or sufficiently described regarding how they would be used in a classroom setting

 

4. Statements of resource strengths (0-2 points)

2 points: Strengths of every resource are clearly described

1 point: Strengths of some resources are not clearly described or are missing

0 points: Many statements of resource strengths are missing or not clearly described

 

5. References listed (0-3 points)

3 points: Citation for references is complete and in proper format

2 points: Citation is largely complete or format is largely correct

1 point: Numerous mistakes in citation format

0 points: Citation is completely missing or contains more than 4 major errors

 

6. Quality of writing (0-4 points)

4 points: sentences are complete, grammar is excellent, no spelling errors, organization is clear - in short the piece is well written

3 points: Generally well written but there are a few errors in punctuation/spelling or organization is a bit unclear

2 points: Some sentences are incomplete, some spelling errors, organization is muddled

1 point: More than half of the sentences are incomplete, paragraph structure is largely missing, difficult to determine what student is saying

0 points: Description makes no coherent sense, multiple errors in grammar, spelling, etc.

 

7. Format (0 – 3 points)

 3 points: Document is formatted as an html file with text in 12 point font and is ready to be posted to the SEP 

2 points: Format is html file but it appears that student has cut and pasted document from elsewhere and not adjusted/reviewed format 

1 point: Document submitted electronically but not in html format

 0 points: Document submitted only as hard copy to instructor
