Rubric for "Science Misconception" component of the Science Education Portfolio (SEP)
1. Statement of misconception (0 - 3 points) 3 points: statement is clear,
applicable to capstone course theme, 2 points: statement is clear, not
applicable to course theme, 1 point: misconception is poorly
stated or not a misconception at 0 point: statement is missing 2. Correct statement of concept (0 – 3 points) 3 points: statement is clear, concept is correctly stated 2 points: statement is clear, concept is somewhat incorrect 1 point: concept is present but
is largely incorrect or introduces 0 point: statement is missing completely 3. Way to teach (0 – 3 points) 3 points: suggestion is relevant,
age appropriate, shows 2 points: suggestion is relevant,
age appropriate, could be more 1 point: suggestion is not
relevant to concept to be taught or 0 point: section missing completely
4. Quality of writing (0 – 4 points) 4 points: sentences are complete,
grammar is excellent, no 3 points: generally well-written
but there are a few errors in 2 points: some sentences are
incomplete, some spelling errors, 1 point: more than half of the
sentences are incomplete, 0 point: description makes no
coherent sense, multiple errors in 5. Thoughtfulness/college level (0 – 4 points)
6. References (0 – 2 points) 2 points: references are in correct (APA or MLA) format 1 point: most references are in correct format 0 point: no references are in correct format 7. Format as html (0 - 1 point) 1 point: format is html 0 point: format is not html 8. Length (500 word minimum) (0 – 1 point) 1 point: length met 0 point: length not met
