UM-Dearborn's prestigious Blueprints Leadership Program is a nine month, in depth exploration of social change. The program brings a group of passionate students together in a journey through leadership involving theory and practice - as students apply critical thinking skills in real world situations and work to make change. Throughout the process students clarify their own beliefs, values, and ethics and build a foundation for changing the world. Students selected for this competitive program spend time with University and community leaders, participate in a 3-day off campus retreat, and take field trips around metro Detroit... all while building life-long friendships. Tailored for students with significant interest in leadership, this program meets weekly and provides students a textbook. Applications are available each summer, and students are selected for the program at the start of the fall semester.
Students in Blueprints have a unique opportunity to be surrounded by other motivated, sincere student leaders committed to making change. Our text, Leadership for a Better World, by Susan Komives is specifically written for college students who want to make a difference. Together, our cohort will explore leadership through social change, develop vision projects, engage in service projects, meet community leaders and have an opportunity to explore personal passions. The program is transformative for students and provides opportunities to explore leadership theory and practice through the lens of positive social change!
