Overall, participating in the MiTTEN project has been a rewarding experience for myself and for the students. It has allowed me to enhance my skills with technology and integrate them into the classroom. Creating my E-portfolio gave me more confidence in using technology. It is one thing to learn and use a program or tool, but it's another thing to teach it to a room full of 6 year olds.
As we know, children have different interests and strengths. By using and allowing the children to use a variety of software and technology tools, they were each able to find something that was appealing to them at their level of understanding. We cannot underestimate children, they are so eager so explore and try new things. Technology met the varying needs and learning styles of my students. Some students need motivation to start and finish assignments. By allowing them to use technology within the lessons, it initiated interest, and made them curious to learn more about bears. I was glad to see the excitement from them prior to and during each lesson. I have gotten feedback from parents that the  children have taken this excitement home. One mother reports that her son wants to go to the library to do research on the computers. Another parent shared that their first grader was helping older siblings with their PowerPoint homework. I have also observed some students that are normally quiet or behind in some academic areas that just acceled when working with technology. When I see that, it impresses upon me the importance of bringing technology into the classroom. We as teachers need to move away from the traditional methods and find new and different ways to motivate and foster children's excitement to learn.
