I am pleased with the way I have been
able to implement technology into the curriculum. If it was not for
the children's love of the computer, I feel that this project would not
have been as successful. The children have been able to learn with
a new tool that has enhanced their academic experience.
No matter the age of the child, each
individual has been able to learn through technology. Every lesson
has been devised to take into account the developmental capabilities of
the children. I have seen, first hand, how one lesson can work for
both five-year-olds and two-year-olds. In fact, this is where my
greatest sense of pride and accomplishment lays for the MiTTEN Project.
I have been able to show the children's hidden abilities with the computer
that their deficit in fine-motor skills hides on paper. For instance,
in the lesson plan: Patterns with KidPix,
the children were able to use a variety of stamps to create patterns, which
if done on paper, they may not have been able to make patterns of such
pictures. Furthermore, the pictures available through KidPix enables
the children to be free to create what they wish without being discouraged
from what they feel are insufficient artistic skills.
In ending, my experience
with the Mitten Project has made me grow as a pre-service teacher.
In the beginning of the project I did not know the extent to which technology
can seamlessly enhance learning and the curriculum. I have seen,
first-hand, children learn more efficiently through the use of technology.
If used correctly, technology can truly enhance the education of children;
which in turn, enhances the lives of children.
