My focus for teaching with technology was to enhance the children's learning using tools that were developmentally appropriate and added to the curriculum in a seamless manner. In my classroom we have a range of ages from 2.5 to 5 years of age. Therefore, my lessons had to allow for these different developmental stages. I wanted to take what was being taught in our group lessons and extend those objectives using technology. Lesson 1, Patterns with Kid Pix , allowed for the children to represent their knowledge of patterns on the computer. The children were able to use pictures from the program to create patterns. View exhibit. Lesson 2, Numbers with Kid Pix , allowed for the children to represent their abilities to recognize and/or write numbers using the computer mouse. Depending on the child's age and developmental abilities, the children either verbally stated numbers drawn on the screen by myself, or drew their own numbers and verbally stated their names. View exhibit. Lesson 3, Shapes with KidPix, allowed for the children to represent their abilities to recognize and/or draw shapes on the computer. Depending on the child's age and developmental abilities, the children either verbally stated the shape names drawn on the screen by myself, or drew their own numbers and verbally stated their names. View exhibit. Lesson 4, Plant and Animal Sorting with Sammy's Science House , allowed the children to practice classification skills by using an educational game. View exhibit. Lesson 5, Feelings Poster , was designed to help foster socialization skills with the use of a digital camera. View exhibit. Lesson 6, Dinosaur Drawings
with KidPix , allowed the children to represent their ideas of what
dinosaurs looked like through the use
Another concern for my cooperating teacher and I
was parent involvement. We wanted to have a concrete representation
of our children's learning for our parents to visit upon arrival to our
classroom, Cottage C. In order to do so, I created learning
webs/ concept maps to display on the bulletin
board. These learning webs mapped out the lessons and activities taught
to our children in each academic area. These were great visuals for
parents to look at and trace the developmental growth of their children.
