Feelings Poster: view lesson

Objectives:
1.  To foster socialization skills by stating how certain actions affect feelings of others.
2.  To practice dramatic expression by creating a feeling on their face.
3.  To enhance language skills by telling the small group how they feel and why.
4.  To practice problem-solving skills by figuring out what could be done to prevent a bad feeling from arising.

In our class, some of the children have been having difficulty with empathy.  Therefore, I devised this lesson to help our children become more aware of how actions can affect their friends’ feelings.  I used a digital camera to photograph the children’s emotions expressed on their faces.  The photo in the exhibit shows a child looking over the feelings poster (compilation of children’s “emotion photos”).  This child was looking for herself while trying to figure out the feelings expressed by her classmates.  This lesson was a great way for the children to internalize the feelings brought out by themselves and the children of the poster.
