Professional Background
-
Hello! My name is
Roberta Quigley. I am currently a senior in a teacher-preparation program at the University of Michigan-Dearborn
. I
have a major in History and a minor in Biology.
During the winter of
2004, I have been completing my student teaching at
Redford Union High School.
Andy Christopherson, a veteran social studies
teacher at Redford Union, has been my mentor during my internship.
Together, Mr. Christopherson and I have been participating in the Mitten
program, a project through UM-D designed to assist
teachers in integrating technology into the classroom curriculum.
Classroom Environment
-
School-Community Background- Redford
Township is a working-class suburb of Detroit. Redford's estimated
population of 52,000 people reside within a mere 11 square
mile area--making it one of the most densely populated cities in the Midwest.
Redford Township is split into two school districts-South Redford
School District and Redford Union School District #1.Redford Union
High School is part of the Redford Union School District
#1.
Redford Union High School serves
approximately 1200 students in grades 9-12. Because Redford Union is
a "school of choice" district, a small population of
students from Detroit and other neighboring cities also attend RUHS. The school offers an outstanding
curriculum,
athletic programs, and after school clubs to its student body.

-
School Technology- Every classroom at
Redford Union High School is equipped with at least one computer with internet
access. There are also three room-sized computer labs in the school.
Most students at RUHS have access to computers and the internet at
home. However, regardless of accessibility of computers within the
home, Redford Union High School maintains a computer lab that is available
to students before, during, and after school.
