Working with the MITTEN program and creating this portfolio has been a terrific learning experience.I now understand that using technology is an important, fun, and interesting way to teach a lesson or unit. What surprised me was the way some students who typically had a hard time listening or concentrating while doing an activity seemed to immensely enjoy working with computers to complete their lessons.
Having this knowledge of technology also appeared to have empowered students because many in the class happily got up out of their chairs to assist another student who needed help with some aspect of working their computer programs. As I observed the lessons in my unit being completed, I felt a sense of accomplishment and pride as my students eagerly completed the pages of their autobiographical timeline books. Overall, the unit went very well.
As an educator, I think it is important for today’s children to become actively involved with technology that will only keep advancing.If I am open to all possibilities of teaching and learning, I know my experiences in the classroom will benefit both the children and me.
