Hamilton Elementary School

Professional Background:

My name is Pamela Fisher and I attend the University of Michigan-Dearborn where I am a student in the School of Education.  I will graduate in December 2003 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education; a major in Social Studies and a minor in Language Arts.  In January 2004, I begin graduate studies also at the University of Michigan where I plan to receive an endorsement in Educational Technology.  I am excited to be a part of the Michigan Teachers' Technology Education Network (MITTEN) as it affords me the opportunity to be proficient with technology and to incorporate technology into the curriculum I teach.  This gives me another viable tool for teaching my students how to succeed.

Teaching Environment:

I am currently student teaching at Hamilton Elementary School in Jane Drotos's fourth grade classroom.  Hamilton School is located  in the northwest corner of Troy; a northern suburb of Detroit, Michigan.  There are approximately 440 students in grades K-5 at Hamilton and the students reflect the diversity of the community.  In our fourth grade classroom, we have 25 students who work hard to learn.  The community's commitment to educational excellence is evident by the large number of parent volunteers and the dedicated staff.  The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredit Hamilton Elementary School.

Learning Environment:

Hamilton School provides a strong educational program that is beginning to integrate technology into the curriculum.  Students have both a computer lab for whole class instruction and a mobile wireless laptop computer lab for classroom use.  Hamilton School has a high tech level of usage for technology according to the CEO Forum's Interactive School Technology and Readiness Chart (STaR chart).

There is a wide variety of technological resources available to help integrate technology into the curriculum at Hamilton.  Some of these resources include:

  • Digital video equipment

  • Digital cameras

  • Elmo video displays

  • Video projection devices

  • Scanners/Printers

  • Instructional software
