REFLECTION/
SUMMARY
In
reflecting
on our study of shapes and the use of technology, we learned that
the student's learning can be enhanced through the use of technology.
Parents
reported seeing an increase of their children's interest level and
awareness
of shapes in their world. Teachers noticed an increased interest
in the children's use of shapes in the classroom, ranging from more
discussion
about shapes to more building of shapes using pattern blocks,
straws
and other small manipulatives.
Parental
involvement in terms of the homework assignment worked well,
particularly
the use of digital cameras and scanners. The class enjoyed reviewing
the
pictures of shapes that the children provided at group time.
Part
of
our goal was to increase communication between home and school with the
use of technology. At this time, it is difficult to assess how
effectively
we have met this goal. We asked parents for their E mail
addresses,
but got little response. As we continue our quest for furthering the
use
of technology, we still hope to be able to better improve communication
between teacher and parent.
There
is little that I would do differently, except perhaps offering more
exposure
to the computer software as we continue our exploration with technology
in the classroom.
