Group
Research Paper and Presentation Assignment
With your group, you will
write a research paper related to
Lord of the Flies.
You
will also create a 15 to 20 minute PowerPoint presentation about your
group
paper.
You will present this to the class.
The
paper will be 12 to 16 pages in length.
I will
assign
each group a topic, and as a group you will brainstorm ideas about
subtopics.
Each
person in the group is responsible for researching and writing about a
subtopic of the main topic.
For example, if you
have
the topic “gangs,” some possible subtopics could be:
1.What
are gangs and what is the history of gangs?
2.Who
joins gangs and why do they join?
3.Where are
gangs
located?
4.What do gangs do and is there a problem
with gang behavior?
Each group member’s paper will
be 2 to 3 pages long.
There should be a title
page,
a table of contents, an introduction and conclusion, and a Works Cited
page for the group paper.
This will add about 4
pages
to the 2 to 3 pages that each member writes.
This
makes the group paper 12 to 16 pages total.
Each group member will
use a minimum of three resources, one of which must be an online
resource.
Besides
writing his own section of the paper, each group member will create his
own Works Cited page that will list the three references he used in his
section.
In addition, each member must take on one
of the following roles:
Paper Compiler:
This
person collects each person’s individual paper and Work Cited page and
puts the whole paper together to be turned in.
The
paper compiler must also create the cover page and table of contents
for
the group’s paper.
Writer:
This
person views the sections of each member and then writes an
introduction
and conclusion for the whole paper that fits what each member has
written
in his own section.
Computer Tech:
This
person is in charge of working with each member to create excellent
PowerPoint
slides.
The Tech will help the group add sound and
graphics, animation, images, etc. to the presentation.
This
person will also be responsible for holding on to disks and compiling
each
member’s slides into one cohesive presentation.
The
Tech will create the title slide, introduction slide, and the
conclusion
slide plus his own slides for his section.
Presenter:
This
person is in charge of introducing and concluding the PowerPoint show.
This
person must also make sure that the group sticks to each deadline.
The
Presenter will always have the timeline on hand to tell the group
members
what is due and when it is due.
Just as each member wrote his
own section of the paper, each member will also create his own slides.
Each
person must have a minimum of three slides explaining his subtopic, an
introduction to his subtopic, a conclusion to his subtopic, and a Works
Cited slide.
This makes a minimum of six
slides
per person (the Tech will have more since he is creating the intro,
title,
and conclusionary slide for the entire presentation). This project/paper
is
worth 200 points.
The point breakdown as follows:
- 50 points – individual grade for the paper
- 25points – group grade for paper
- 50 points - individual slides
- 25 – group grade on presentation
- 25 points – accomplishments in assigned role
- 25 points – meeting deadlines
