TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION:
Internet and monitor cord to connect
computer to the large screen monitor.
OPENER:
Explain that today we will be playing
a review game for the unit test on Lord of the Flies. We need one
volunteer to write scores on the board and one volunteer to work the mouse
on the computer. The teacher should remain free to move about the room
and oversee the entire class. Everyone else will work in groups to answer
questions about the novel.
PROCEDURE:
The
online review game site is: www.nobel.se/literature/educational/golding
. The volunteer with the mouse will go to the website, while the teacher
reads the game directions from the site.
The
scorekeeper will write each group’s name on the board. Each group is asked
a question. If they get it right, they get two points. If they get it wrong,
the next group has the opportunity to answer for one point. The group with
the most points at the end wins 25 extra credit points/person. Remind students
to take notes during the game since this serves as their review for Monday’s
test.
CLOSURE (and Evaluation of Student
Progress):
Remind students that the test is tomorrow.
Suggest they go to the discussion board over the weekend to study together
and ask each other questions. Talk about each of the main characters, things
they did, and memorable things they said. Talk about each character in
terms of symbolism. Symbolism will definitely be on the test. The teacher
will write the review game web address on the board and suggest students
look at that as further review, especially on symbolism.
STUDENT TEACHER'S EVALUATION OF
LESSON TAUGHT:
The goal of this lesson is to provide
a review for the students. I will assess their understanding of the novel
through their responses to the review game questions. This will also give
me the opportunity to intervene and correct any misunderstandings they
may have. The final evaluation of their understanding will come from the
test on the following day.
