ONLINE COMMA LESSON

OBJECTIVES:

1.SWBAT access an Internet site with a Power Point presentation and an online quiz.

2.SWBAT use technology to reinforce skills learned in class:comma usage.

3.SWBAT apply knowledge from lecture, practice sheets, and online tutorial in completing a comma quiz.

OPENER:

Pass out handout (Page 1 and Page 2) on the Online Comma Tutorial and Quiz.

PROCEDURE:

1.Explain all directions on the handout before going to the Media Center.First, half of the students (I will name them) will go directly to the computers (because there are only 14 computers and 28 students) and begin the tutorial and quiz.As they finish I will place other students on the computers.

2.At the tutorial site, they should click on the box that says “Power Point Presentations.”Once they get to the presentation on quizzes, they should click through it and make any notes they need.After the tutorial, they return to the site listed on the handout and scroll to the bottom.Then they click on the icon that says “Quiz:Comma:Fill in the blank.”They follow the directions on the quiz and call me over when they are ready to submit their answers.I will record the score.

3.After all quizzes are finished, students who have not yet posted a message or reply will be allowed to do so.

CLOSURE (and Evaluation of Student Progress):

Remind students to continue using the discussion board even after they have posted two messages.Besides evaluating students on their messages and score on the comma quiz, I will evaluate the tutorial site based on students’ scores.
