  • My name is Laura Harrison. I enjoy teaching first graders at Nowlin School in Dearborn, Michigan. I have been teaching elementary school for fifteen years. Nowlin School has approximately 300 students in grades K-5. This public school is located in a quiet neighborhood in a community of 100,000 people.
  • During the winter semester I had the pleasure of working with Elizabeth Muylaert, a student teacher from the University of Michigan in Dearborn.
  • Our school has a computer lab with 28 computers available for students to use. All of the computers are connected to the internet. A variety of educational software is available for student use. In my classroom I have two outdated Macs that my students use for word processing and educational activities. I have a new Dell computer at my desk that was a "gift" to me from the state of Michigan. In Dearborn we are fortunate that a recent bond issue was passed by the voters. Our technology will be updated in the next few years.
  • Most of our students are comfortable using technology. Some teachers feel that they need more training, time, and support to become better technology teachers. Each teacher is responsible for teaching our district computer curriculum.
