Introduction Overview Narratives Exhibits Reflection

Standard One: Technology Operations and Concepts

Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts.

Teachers will:

  1. - Demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills and understanding of concepts related to technology
  2. - Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
We incorporated continual growth by using our computer lab time to describe various software and parts of the computer to the students. I was able to use my previous experience with computers to help the students. I completed the EDT 210 course and I was able to use knowledge that I acquired from this course to help support my teaching the students. I attended many of the refresher workshops held prior to my student teaching, which was a great way to gain confidence and prepare myself for the MITTEN project.

This included developmentally appropriate terminology, such as use of the mouse, icons and keyboard.

Prior to these lessons we explored different educational software for engaging our students' learning

Standard Two: Planning and Designing Learning Environments and Experiences

Teachers' plan and design effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology.

Teachers will:

  1. - Design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners.
  2. - Apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environments and experiences.
. - Identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability.

Plan for the management of technology resources within the context of  learning activities.

Plan strategies to manage student learningin a technologyenhanced environment.

All the lessons were chosen using the first grade science curriculum.

Final products were created in the classroom and computer lab. Refer to the lesson plans on the Exhibits page.

Digital camera-Photo graphing amaryllis plant and children using the computers.

Inspiration-Webbing the needs of a plant to survive.

Kidspiration-Using"simpletext"to change font, font size and sound of text being read by the computer.

KidPix   -Illustrating what students predict that the bulb will become.

Microsoft-Typing studentsobservations while amaryllis plant was growing.

Typing individual students books comparing their growth with that of the plant.
Using th evarious programs we chose to use were a great way to teach concpets about a plants growth in a different and exciting way. With theKidPix program the students were able to express their ideas in a more concrete way.

Standard Three: Teaching, Learning, and the Curriculum

Teachers implement curriculum plans that include methods and strategies for applying technology to maximize student learning.

Teachers will:

A. Facilitate technology enhanced experiences that address content standards and student technology standards.

BUse technology to support learner-centered strategies that address the diverse needs of students.

C. Apply technology to develop students' higher order skills and creativity.

D. Manage student learning activities in a technology-enhanced environment.

We planned for volunteers to support the individualneeds of students.Support for individual instructionwas provided as needed. In many of the lessons parents which had volunteered were also learning something new. Using technology made it possible to reach all students. It often enabled children to guide the lesson to a place where you never thought it was going to go. Using the programs such as inspiration or even simple text used a great deal of higher order thinking. The answer was not in a book it was something they had to find within themselves.

Please refer to pictures on Exhibit page.

Standard Four: Assessment Evaluation

Teachers apply technology to facilitate avariety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies.

Teachers will:

  1. - Apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter using a variety of assessments and techniques.
  2. - Use technology resources to collect and analyze data interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practiceand maximize student learning.
  1. - Apply multiple methods of evaluation to determine students' appropriate useof technology resources for learning, communication, and productivity
  2. The technology was a great way to keep student work as well as let them take it home and share it with their families. I was able to keep their work to mark how their thoughts and ideas changed over time, and how their ability to manipulate the mouse had improved or not improved by looking at illustrations completed on KidPix.
  3. Standard Five: Productivity and Professional Practice

  4.

    - Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice.

    Teachers will:

A .Use technology resources to engage in on going professional development and life long learning.

    B. Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding

the use of technology in support of student learning.

    C. Apply technology to increase productivity.

  5. D. Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
We have been continually evaluating and reflecting our technology practices through journals and NLC meetings. I utilized the students ability to type on the computer to send work home, I posted students pictures in the hallway for staff and students to view, and I sent home letters explaining what we had been doing throughout the semester. I was able to look back and reflect on lessons taught by lloking at digital pictures as well as the students work that I kept. Without technology I would not have the work to look back on and reflect upon.

Standard Six: Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues

Teachers understand the social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding theuse of technology in

PreK-12 schools and apply that understanding in practice.

Teachers will:

A. Model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use.

  1. - Apply technology resources to enable and empower learner and diverse backgrounds, characteristics, and abilities.
  2. - Identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity.
  3. - Promote safe and healthy use of technology resources.
  4. - Facilitate equitable access to technology resources for all students.
We sent home a district wide Internet and photograph policy asking parents for permission to allow their children to participate in various technology lessons.

We sent home another permission slip informing parents that their child would be participating in the MITTEN project.

We also asked that parents give permission for their child's name, picture and individual work to be displayed on the website. Throughout my student teaching I used technology in an age appropriate way. I incorporated the needs of all the students in my classroom. I made sure to evaluate any programs I used prior to the lesson, inlcuding websites that were used. All of the materials I used were free of bias towards any race, ethnic, social or gender that my students were.
