Welcome message!

About me:

  • I am a teacher at Howard Elementary School in Dearborn.  I have taught for a total of 17 years with 12 of those in Dearborn.  Two years were in Developmental Pre-School  and the rest were working at the elementary level as a Resource teacher, Reading Recovery teacher, 1st grade teacher, Kindergarten teacher and presently as a 2nd grade teacher.  My Bachelor's and Masters degrees are from Indiana University and I have an Early Childhood endorsement from Eastern Michigan University.  My Reading Recovery training was through Western Michigan University.

About my classroom:

I have 25 students with a wide range of academic ablities.  Most of them come from homes with computers and have some background  knowledge.  They also mostly come from families that read with them and give them a broad range of experiences.  Many of the children have traveled the world more than I have!  This widens the gap between those who "have" and those who do not.

About Howard Elementary:

  • Howard is in an upper middle class community with very strong parental involvement.  Our students are fairly high achieving and parents support their education at home with extra tutoring as needed. The majority of our students have and use computers at home.
  • Our school has a computer lab with 30 eMacs connected to the internet.  Each teacher also has a Mac in the classroom for his/her use and one or two classroom computers are connected to the internet as well.
  • A recent Star Chart indicates that our school is, in general, a mid-tech school.
