"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
-Arthur C. Clarke
  • Part of our first grade curriculum is the study of penguins. We decided to incorporate technology to enhance the learning experiences of the children about this topic.

  • We wanted to integrate the study of penguins across different content areas. Our major focus was science and language arts. We used our factual knowledge of penguins to enhance writing skills and using descriptive words. Students wrote riddles, stories, and news articles about penguins and illustrated these using graphics programs.

  • Technology was utilized to display student work for students and parents. Part of our study on penguins included a penguin play which included a Readers Theater, Poems, Songs and Raps. We used power point to create a language experience story about our preparations for the production.

    Big Picture Goals

  • For children reluctant to express themselves in writing

  • To use technology as a highly motivating, high interest classroom tool

  • An exciting way to publish and share (i.e. Authors Chair) The children will see thier stories come to life on television.
