Mundt Reflections
I really enjoyed working and learning from the MITTEN
project.
It
was wonderful professional development for me as a professional and I
would encourage anyone to participate in it. My technology knowledge was
very limited when we started this project. I used the computer in my
classroom for word processing and basic skill games for my students.
I have learned numerous ways to integrate technology into the
curriculum and my lessons. The help from my student teacher Pamela Bernard
was invaluable. She is very knowledgeable about technology and we would
not have been able to do several activities without her expertise.
I thought working with computers allowed for great differentiation
of instruction for my third graders.
They were able to work on computers individually, in small groups,
and as a whole class. Using the television monitor in the classroom really brought
our topic alive for the children. Children who struggle with writing
really were able to express themselves quite well using the computer and
felt very successful. Technology lessons helped to reach both high level
and struggling students.
Some activities proved to be challenging. Working with a student
teacher allowed for small groups to use the computer lab. Some of the
projects would be very difficult to do as a single classroom teacher
without assistance. We did experience some frustration with some software.
Our school computers are not as current and would not accept some of the
software we wanted to use. Transferring work from the school computer to
home computers was difficult as well. |
