Exploring
Textures
Throughout the semester,
the following technology was used to enhance the children's learning:
-
Digital camera is used
daily to capture children's learning
-
Video camera is used
for capturing children's thinking and revisiting their previous learning
to enhance their further learning.
-
Video Capture Card is
used to transcribe children's words and actions and take pictures of children
in action.
Computers are used
to connect children's learning with familiar pictures.
Since the
beginning of the semester the children consistently showed interest in
sensory activities. They love the feel of all different kinds
of sensory substances, including different paints and sticky, gooey, materials
on their bodies. I also found many of the children are fascinated
with the dripping of various substances. After observing this, I
decided to continue planning activities which allowed for continued exploration.
I started planning activities in the sensory table which included water,
snow, sand, and dirt. We also provided a variety of painting materials
and textures.
Following
are examples of activities we provided for the children to explore:
-
Goop:
The children enjoyed experimenting with goop when it was in a liquid state
and a firm consistency.
-
Ice Cubes:
The children discovered ice cubes stick to their fingers and make sounds.
-
Texture
Collage: One child noticed glue was necessary to make things stick
to her paper.
-
Sand Paper:
A child noticed the difference between the texture of sand paper to the
table top.
