My objectives were to integrate technology as a means of enhancing the mathematics content, design engaging learner-centered activities, and expose students to a variety of technologies and applications.

Technology was integrated throughout the semester in all of my Algebra, Geometry, and AP Calculus classes.  Below is a summary of the lesson objectives and accomplishments, and the technologies used.  Lesson plans can be accessed by clicking on the specific content area.

Accomplishments
Linear, Quadratic, and Absolute Value Functions
Geometer's Sketch Pad, MS Word, Graphing Calculators
  • Test logistics - student passwords, system access, etc.
  • Assess learning styles - identify those students for whom technology will yield success with respect to mathematics
  • Graph and categorize large number of functions in a relatively short period of time
  • Expose students to software
  • Expose students to graphing calculators
Scatter Plots
FATHOM, MS Word, Motion Detector
  • Draw and interpret scatter plots
  • Introduce least squares line and correlation coefficient concepts
Matrices
MS Excel
  • Perform matrix addition and subtraction on large matrices relatively quickly
  • Expose students to a simple profit model
  • Enhance students' MS Excel skills
Probability
Internet websites, simulations
  • Learn the fundamentals of probability through an alternative learning medium
  • Expose students to the concepts of  probability via computer simulations
Writing and Mathematics
MS Word
  • Effectively express mathematical problems and solutions in writing

Accomplishments
Rigid Transformations

Geometer's Sketch Pad
  • Reinforce the concepts of transformations, rotations, and reflections through manipulation
  • Introduce students to the software
  • A pre-lesson was designed to give our students a basic understanding of the program
Web - Building a Geometry Tool Box Inspiration
  • Create visual connections between geometric definitions, statements, and properties
  • Introduce students to the software
  • Engage students who are motivated by art and other creative expressions
Chapter Review Power Point
  • Create and present power point summaries as a chapter review
  • Help prepare students for the chapter test
  • Access higher-level thinking skills by means of student as teacher
  • Enhance students' power point, organization, and  presentation skills
