Welcome to my e-portfolio!

Hi! My name is Julie Warner and I am currently enrolled at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in the secondary education program.  I have completed my major in history along with a minor in mathematics.  During my time at UM-D, I have taken several technology-based courses and  have learned different strategies which will help me implement technology into my future classroom.

From September to December 2002, in my last semester at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, I have been completing my student teaching at Redford Union High School in Redford Township, Michigan.  I am presently teaching ninth grade Global Insights and tenth grade U.S. History under the supervision of my supervising teacher, Karen Caprara. Together, Karen and I have participated in U of M's MITTEN program for the promotion of successful integration of technology into the K-12 curriculum. We have worked together to develop fun, engaging lessons using technology to enhance student learning!

Classroom Environment:

Students--Redford Union is split into two school districts--South Redford School District and Redford Union School District #1. Most Redford Union  students come from a working class suburb of Detroit. Redford Union is also a "School of Choice" district which has brought in a small population of students from Detroit.  All together, RUHS houses over 1200 students.

While not all students have Internet access at home, the majority do.  Most students some from homes fairly proficient in basic computer use.  At Redford Union High School, all students have access to computers and the Internet before, during, and after school through either the school library, or through libraries in the surrounding area.

Technology--When I first began my student teaching, I used the CEO Forum's Interactive School Technology and Readiness Chart (STaR chart) to assess Redford Union's curricular technology abilities.  The results can be broken down into the following five categories:

  • Hardware: Mid Tech
  • Connectivity: Low Tech
  • Content: Mid Tech
  • Professional Development: Mid Tech
  • Integration and Use: Low Tech
