Productivity and Professional Practices.   Teachers use technology to enhance their productivity and professional practice.
  • Use Technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
I have always utilized technology resources such as search engines; not limiting myself to Goggle and Yahoo, but including education search engines such as SCOPE, (Sample Curriculum and Plans for Educators), and Michigan Teacher Network.  I also am a participant of a College Board Electronic Discussion Group for Advanced Placement Calculus.  Through the discussion group I am able to communicate with other mathematics teachers all over the United States about content, solving problems, lessons, and assessment.  The University of Michigan Dearborn Mitten project  has been a wonderful professional development opportunity.
  • Continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning.
All lessons, technology included, show be reviewed, reflected upon, and revised for future use.  With each new lesson I make notes of changes that would increase students learning and productivity.  Furthermore, lessons that went very well and did not need revising will also be noted so that I don't inadvertently change an aspect of the lesson that worked very well.  For example, in the geometry Inspiration Lesson I put the students in groups of two simply because there was not enough computers.  However, I found with the students working together, there was a great deal of discussion on content and examples.  The students really learned from each other.  I would not want to change that for next time, so I noted that observation as well as any changes in timing or content that may be needed.
  • Apply technology to increase productivity.
Technology has increased my productivity in many ways.  As stated above I can now search for lessons and ideas through search sites.  I can discuss ideas and questions with teachers anywhere in the country, the use of Power point, MS word, Excel, and grading programs have provided me with easy access and updates to my lessons and materials created.  Web sites for book companies and computerized test banks allow me to more quickly and neatly create assessments and projects.
  • Use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.
I have created a web site www.teacherweb.com/mi/rhs/secco where students, parents and the community can learn about the activities taking place in my classes.  I use email regularly to communicate with parents and colleagues.  I also use the College Board EDB [www.collegeboard.com] to collaborate with peers on lessons, questions, and activities.
