Standard I : Technology Operations and Concepts

Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts.
  • Demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology.
My Bachelor's Degree includes a minor in Computer Science.  I am familiar with and regularly use different types of technology and software in my classroom and my  professional duties.  For classroom activities I have integrated the Internet for searching and acquiring information for lessons. The students have used it to search  materials for lessons and simulations as in the probability lessonI have used MS Word, Power point, Excel, Geometer Sketchpad, MS Paint and Inspiration to create lessons, while the students have used these programs to complete lessons.  I use email and grading programs for grading students.
  • Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current emerging technologies
I keep current with technology through workshops  with educational services, for example I completed a workshop with Wayne Country RESA on creating a web page in the summer of 2004 and now have my web page at www.teacherweb.com/mi/rhs/secco.  I regularly attend the Detroit Area Council of Teachers of Mathematics and attended workshops on using the Internet, technology and learning styles, and teaching lessons with technology.   As a National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics member I receive news letters and publications that include technology applications.  I am also a University of Michigan Dearborn's MITTEN participant.  This participation has been a opportunity for technology advancement and ideas for teaching.  During my MITTEN participation, I completed workshops on Front Page, Inspiration, Learning Styles and the Internet, and Kid Pix.  I have found ways to apply technology in new and interesting ways with my students. This portfolio is a highlight of just a few of the new technology based activities that I have added to my curriculum this school year.  My school has also provided a great deal of  technology professional development which I continue to participate in.
