Lesson 7: Review

Objective:
Students will review for the test.

Michigan Benchmark:
SS.IV.1.1: Explain why people must face scarcity when making economic decisions.
SS.IV.1.2: Identify the opportunity costs in personal decision making situations.
SS.IV.1.3: Use a decision making model to explain a personal choice.
SS.IV.2.1: Distinguish between natural resources, human capital, and capital equipment in the production of a good or service.
SS.IV.4.1: Explain how prices are determined in a market economy and how they serve as a means of allocating resources.
SS.IV.5.2: Describe benefits of international trade to consumers and producers
Tech.3.LE.4: Use technologies to organize thoughts in a logical process.

Materials:
KWL charts, pencil, TV monitor, computer, review sheet

Anticipatory Set:
What is economics?

Modeling Activity:
Mrs. Maloney and I will model how to play Jeopardy, which I created specifically for this lesson at http://www.quia.com.

Guided Practice:
Other classes: I will split the class into two teams for Jeopardy, which I will man the computer.
My class: They will play in pairs in the computer lab.

Independent Practice:
Students will fill out the L of the KWL by themselves independently. If there is time, they may start to go over their review sheet ready for the test next time.

Closure:
I will ask students to share what they have learned. I will pass out the review sheet and remind them that the test will be next time.

Assessment:
Students will be getting a participation grade for today's activities. I will know how well they have learned the material when I grade the tests from the next class period.

Reflection:
They couldn't get enough of the jeopardy. My class didn't get to go to the computer lab to play in pairs like originally planned, so we just played in the classroom like the other classes. I also changed the lesson in that to have more time to play jeopardy and answer any remaining questions, I moved the KWL to test day, and they filled out the L before taking the test. Some students were really into checking out the game and my website at home. I feel that this was a great way to review for the test, because as I pointed out to the students, the definitions that I used for the game and flashcards were straight from a book, and not the simple fifth grade definitions we came up with in class, so if they understood the book definition, they would be in great shape. Playing this game was a wonderful way to include everyone, since there were 25 questions, so everyone had to answer (they could pass to another player on their team if they got stuck).
