| My
participation in the MITTEN
Project (Michigan Teacher's Technology Education Network) has enabled me
to integrate a variety of technology tools into the classroom. I
have learned a lot from my cooperating teacher, as well as from my third
grade students.
As the semester began, I was prepared to improve the knowledge, skills, and confidence to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. I was excited to use my creativity and model meaningful uses of technology into my classroom. However, the majority of the children in our classroom did not have access to home computers and other technological tools. After hearing this news, I was determined to use technological information to enhance student learning. Within the first week, my students embraced the use of technology and the idea of using their favorite author, Louis Sachar for the project. During the semester, our third grade students learned how to use a variety of multimedia and software programs. The use of these technological tools will better prepare them to live in a technology-enriched environment. By implementing the use of technology into the classroom, we experienced and prepared a new generation of future learners. If I could go back and start again, I would have used cross-curricula activities to increase classroom development and learner retention. Also, if time had permitted I would have liked to have implemented a variety of other software programs into our children's literature unit. Overall,
I have learned that teachers must be well-prepared, patient, creative,
knowledgable, and confident when integrating technology into their curriculum.
They must be optomistic and passionate about forming a community of learners.
In addition, I have learned that children love working with technology
and when used properly, can only enhance the curriculum. My experience
of learning to integrate technology into the classroom was extremely positive.
I would like to thank Amal Hassoun, my cooperating teacher and my third
grade students at Iris Becker. They have helped me to become confident
in teaching technology and have confirmed my love for working in the most
nobel of professions.
