Professional Background Hello!
My name is Jenan Abuzahria and I am currently a student at the University
of Michigan-Dearborn. I will be receiving my Bachelors of Science degree
in Elementary Education. My major is Math and Minor is Science. I will
be certified to teach all major subject areas including Social Studies,
Math, Language Arts, and Science in K-5 grade levels. I am currently endorsed
to teach 6-8 grade Math and Science as well. I am currently performing
my student teaching in Fall 2003 at Salina Elementary School in the city
of Dearborn. For the past four years, I have gained exceptional pre-student
teaching experiences at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Child Development
Center, Allen Park District, Dearborn School District, Taylor School District,
and the Monroe School District.
Dearborn Public Schools District The Dearborn Schools District is an extremely large school school district comprising with over 20 elementary schools (including Salina), 4 middle schools, and 3 high schools. It is an extremely large district. It is also very culturally diverse. Itconsists of a tremendously large arab population that have immigrated from countries including, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Egypt, and Syria! Salina Elementary Salina Elementary School is located in the South End of Deaborn and is a school that I am absolutely happy to be student teaching in. It has large amount of arab descent students. I personally attended Salina from prek-1st grade as a child. So, I am very familiar with the school's cultural and diverse environment. Recently this year, Salina built a beautiful new school that is currently housing students from k-3, while the Main Building of Salina, will house grade levels 4-5. The Main Building (which I am in), will eventually be expanded to include grades 4-8. The principal at Salina is Mrs. Nadia Youmans and the Assistant Principal at Salina is Mr. Glenn Maleyko.Salina Elementary has an amazing staff Technology at Salina In the building, we have a computer lab that accomodates twenty individual students' computer stations with Internet access and a teacher station that is connected to a big screen television. It has capabilities for teachers to look at each student's screen for supervision and students work can be viewed on the screen as well. Through the teacher's station, teachers can design launchers and add programs as needed. In every classroom, teachers have at least one computer with Internet access, a big screen television, and a telephone. However, due to reconstructing of the two schools, wiring of technology has been quite complicated and difficult. However, despite the complications, according to the Interactive School and Readiness Chart, the Star Chart, Salina's technology level seems to be at the High-Tech level. 2. Connectivity: Mid Tech 3. Content: High Tech 4. Professional Development: High Tech 5. Integration and Use: Mid Tech |
