Lesson 6: Making Choices
Objective:
TSWBAT make a decision using a model and explain and identify
opportunity costs.
Michigan Benchmark:
SS.IV.1.1: Explain why people must face scarcity when making economic
decisions.
SS.IV.1.2: Identify the opportunity costs in personal decision making
situations.
SS.IV.1.3: Use a decision making model to explain a personal choice.
Tech.3.LE.4: Use technologies to organize thoughts in a logical process.
NETS:
Prior to completion of Grade 5 students will:
1. Use keyboards and other common input and output devices (including
adaptive devices when necessary) efficiently and effectively. (1)
2. Use technology resources (e.g., calculators, data collection probes,
videos, educational software) for problem solving, self-directed
learning, and extended learning activities. (5, 6)
Materials:
Computers, question sheet, pencil
Anticipatory Set:
What is a choice you have made since last time? What was you opportunity
cost?
Modeling Activity:
I will demonstrate to the students how to get to the website, http://www.escapefromknab.com
and what they will be doing.
Guided/Independent Practice:
Students will play the game and answer questions.
Closure:
I will survey the class by asking students to put their thumbs up for
those who made it back to earth and thumbs down for those still stuck on
Knab.
Assessment:
I will collect their questions to see how they did and how well they
understand how to make a choice.
