TECHNOLOGY SEMINARS

Technology seminars address the social and cultural implications of
information technology for schools and society. MITTEN offers two technology seminars in a year focusing on different issues. The seminar activities are designed to build awareness of broader social issues related to educational technology.

MITTEN Fall 2002 Seminar

Assistive Technology: Providing Learning Opportunities and Access for All Students

MITTEN's 2nd technology seminar took palace on Tusday, October 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 at the University of Michigan. At this meeting Judy Phelps from Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC) addressed the "Assistive Technology: Providing Learning Opportunities and Access for All Students."

Judy Phelps received a Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Technology from Eastern Michigan University. Judy was employed as a school Occupational Therapist for several Wayne County schools from 1980 – 1992. In 1992, Judy joined the Wayne County Assistive Technology Resource Center (ATRC). Wayne ATRC provides Assistive Technology support to 29 local school districts in Wayne County, MI. Judy has published several journals articles, coauthored two textbooks, and presents at local, state and national conferences.
