Mathematics - Grade 4

Objectives:

• Students will learn to compose their thoughts at the computer.
• Students will use AppleWorks 6 word processing to reflect on the
  math skills they learned in Unit 2.
• Students will practice typing skills and proper format.
• Students will become familiar with computers by using the
  keyboard, saving work, and printing.

Materials:
            Math journal page 50
            AppleWorks 6 - word processing
            Printers

Anticipatory Set:
    Students and teachers discuss and record on the board all of the math skills covered in Unit 2.  Look over journal page       question together.

Procedure:
    Each student is assigned a computer.  Everyone opens up a new document on AppleWorks 6 word processing.  Students type the journal questions and their responses.  Then, students need to Spell-check their work and get it edited by the teacher.  Journal reflections are to be saved and printed.

Closure:
    Students return to the classroom with their typed work.  As a group, discuss journal responses.

                 All students will read and comprehend general and technical material.

                 Benchmark1.1:
                 Use reading for multiple purposes, such as enjoyment, gathering
                 information, learning new procedures, and increasing conceptual
                 understanding.

                Michigan English Language Arts Standard:  Meaning and
                 Communication:  Content Standard 2:
                 All students will demonstrate the ability to write clear and
                 grammatically correct sentences, paragraphs, and compositions.

                Benchmark 2.1:
                 Write fluently for multiple purposes to produce compositions, such as
                 stories, reports, letters, plays, and explanations of processes.
                 Benchmark 2.4:
                 Identify multiple language conventions and use them when editing text.
                 Examples include recognition of nouns, verbs, and modifiers,
                 capitalization rules, punctuation marks, and spelling.

                 Michigan English Language Arts Standard:  Meaning and
                 Communication:  Content Standard 3:
                 All students will focus on meaning and communications as they listen,
                 speak, view, read, and write in personal, social, occupational, and civic
                 contexts.

                 Benchmark 3.8:
                 Express their responses to oral, visual, written, and electronic texts, and
                 compare their responses to those of others.
