Welcome to my electronic portfolio!

Who am I?
My name is Debbie Cortellini and I am a 5th grade teacher at Allen Elementary School in the Plymouth/Canton Community School District . I received my B.S. in Education from Ball State University and my M.S. in Education from Indiana University.  I taught five years after graduation, and then stayed home twenty years to raise a family.  I resumed teaching three years ago and am thrilled to have Jodi Guibord as a student teacher.

Classroom Environment
Students-
My students vary in abilities.  I have three ESL students and three that receive special education services.  We are also a Title I school and many receive Title I services.  All of the students, no matter what their ability, love to use technology.   Most of the students have internet access in their homes and enjoy using computers in their free time. We have graphed on Excel, done brochures on Publisher and done many PowerPoint presentations.  My student teacher, Jodi Guibord, has added to our enthusiasm to use technology.  She is very helpful and adds knowledge that will help us expand our integration of technology in the classroom.

Technology-
Our classroom has 2 PCs and 2 laptops for student use.  There is also another laptop in the classroom that is for teacher use only.
The school has a computer lab located in the library that the entire school shares. We have one scheduled period during "A" weeks, and sign up for lab time during "B" weeks.  I rush to sign up, as lab time gets very limited.

The CEO Forum on Education & Technology has developed a School Technology & Readiness (STaR) Chart for the K-12 community.
After completing the series of questions, it was determined that on average Allen Elementary is at the Mid Tech level.  The survey evaluates the school in five areas.  Below are the results for Allen Elementary School in each area.

1.  Hardware: High Tech
2.  Connectivity: Low Tech
3.  Content:  Mid Tech
4.  Professional Development:  Mid Tech
5.  Integration and Use: Low Tech
