Learning about
Bears
-
Following our
curriculum to study living organism, we chose bears to study. To
start out the unit and to find out the children's prior knowledge we had
a discussion on bears. Because of the children's misconceptions their discussion
led to what topics we would cover in teaching about bears. They include;
what bears look like, what they eat, where they live, if they hibernate,
and where their den is. There are 7 different types of bears so we took
each bear and explored these topics. The lessons are very similar and are
used to address their misconceptions and gain a foundation about bears.

Before and during
the explorations of bears the students have had several opportunities to
learn basic skills working on computers and programs. Paint, Microsoft
Word and PowerPoint are the main software programs the children learned
and used during this unit. Other technology tools they used were scanners,
digital camera's, and the Internet.
The Assessment was done during every
lesson and activity by observation, filling in the chart, and checking
over the worksheets.
