Wonder leads to wisdom.  Technology makes it soar!

Welcome to my E-Portfolio!

As a recent graduate of the University of Michigan and a registered  nurse I have been truly enjoying all of the changes that I am seeing in classroom technology.  I have been a registered nurse since 1988, and a Certified Pediatric Nurse since 1997.  During my career as a nurse I had the opportunity to work in a school-based healthcare center.  It was then that I knew teaching was my dream.  In 2000 I decided to pursue a certification in elementary education, and I have been learning that technology is "the buzzword" ever since.

I have a Bachelors degree in the Science of Nursing from Mercy College of Detroit, with my Certification in Pediatrics, and a Teaching Certification in Elementary Education with endorsements in science and language art from the University of Michigan Dearborn.  When I consider the amount of focus we spent on technology in the 1980's compared to now, it is amazing!

During my student teaching placement I participated in the MITTEN program.  MITTEN is a program designed to prepare teachers for integrating technology in the 21st century. I was placed in a research group with  MITTEN called Communities of Continuous Inquiry and Improvement, or CCII.  Our goal was to prove that technology helps students to learn better.  We had to determine their needs by selecting an area that they had already had instruction in, but needed more development.  Then we used technology to teach the information to help us prove that the instruction using technology was  more  effective.  My student teaching placement was at  Long Elementary in Dearborn, in Lori Lee's third grade class.  Our classroom had 26 students of various  ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Upon completing the International Society of Technology Education Star Chart I found Long to be a high-tech school.   Our classroom was equipped with 4 PC computers that have high-speed Internet connection. The classroom teacher had her own  workstation.

If you take the  the time to look at the links in my portfolio you will find examples of the lesson plans that integrated technology into the curriculum. You will also find examples of student work and pictures of the students that I had an opportunity to work with. The technology projects included in my portfolio are based on the assessments that we used to determine the needs of the students and to fulfill our CCII requirements for MITTEN research, as well as the technology available at Long Elementary.
