Student
Work
As mentioned
previously, Mrs. Auler and myself sent home a permission slip to each
students' family asking for permission to photograph their child and
possibly use samples of their work for this portfolio. We were
fortunate that the majority of the parents responded well to this request,
and we have a wonderful collection of samples. I felt that the
students did a wonderful job on all the projects, and the technology really
helped to motivate them. The following are examples of their work from
each lesson. I used Adobe Acrobat in order to compile several samples
of student work for each lesson, so a link to the download page for Adobe
Reader is included.
Lesson 1-
Kidspirations Rock Cycle Diagrams
|
 |
Each
student created their own diagram of the rock cycle. These are
8 examples that are each very unique. Notice that some
students went beyond the requirements because they enjoyed working
with Kidspirations so much! |
Lesson 2-
Rock and Mineral Webquest 1
|
 |
Here
are examples of the first web quest from three different teams.
They all did a wonderful job, especially on the last question which
was a constructed response. Notice that they were graded on
teamwork, as well as their researching skills. |
Lesson 3-
Pet Rock Project and Journals
|
 |
The
students were extremely creative when it came to their Pet Rock
Projects, and they had a nice combination of imagination and
scientific knowledge. Here are 3 complete projects and 1
student's journal entries with amazing drawings! Many students
chose to take pictures of their rocks doing something at home for
extra credit! |
|
 |
Each
student also picked their favorite journal entry to type using
Microsoft Word. The following are 8 examples of typed journal
entries with their picture of their rocks. While they were not
graded on grammar, we did stress the importance of it and they did
their best to type complete paragraphs! |
Lesson 4-
Rock and Mineral Webquest 2
|
 |
Students were excited to work on a second web quest, and even more
excited to read websites about Michigan's mining past. These
are just two examples of the wonderful work they completed. |
Lesson 5-
Mineral Page
|
 |
Using
their knowledge from the second web quest, the students then created
a mineral page with various details. You can see that the
students often did more than
expected of them, and
these are only 4 great examples. The pages were then laminated
and compiled to create a mineral book. |
These
exhibits of student work are examples of both Standards
III and IV. Each of these examples of
student work shows how technology was incorporated into the lessons and
curriculum. In addition, many of these examples have evaluative
grading on them or show the rubric or checklist that was used as evaluation.
They also show the amount of planning shown by Mrs. Auler and myself, which
would then be an example of Standard II.
Finally, compiling our exhibits into .pdf files is representative of our
technology background, which is highlighted in Standard I. |
