| Materials I Developed • Student Work • Other Support Materials & Resources Unit Lesson Plans Using Microsoft Word I created a unit plan that describes the objectives of the unit, materials, resources, and the technology used within the activities. In this lesson, students were first engaged by a PowerPoint presentation demonstrating the rock cycle. Following the presentation, they used their knowledge of the cycle to create a diagram of their own cycle in Kidspiration 2. Lesson 2- Rock and Mineral Webquest 1: This is lesson that centers around a webquest created by Cathy and myself. The students navigated through the available websites in order to complete their task, which involved utilizing the internet to gather information. Lesson 3- Pet Rock Project and Journal: The students took ownership of their own pet rock in this lesson. Each student wrote a daily journal about their rock's activities, and then typed their favorite entry in Microsoft Word. A digital picture of their rock was included in the entry, and they presented their project to the class using a mircophone. Lesson 4- Rock and Mineral Webquest 2: In this second portion of the webquest students looked at human interactions with rocks and minerals. They also gathered information about a specific mineral to be used in the final lesson. This final lesson allowed students to utilize research from the previous lesson to create their own page of a classroom mineral book. Students used KidPix Deluxe 3 to make an attractive page about their mineral. Relationship to the Standards: The unit plan and lesson plans serve as examples of multiple technology standards. These plans are examples of Standard I because in order to create detailed lessons about technology, the teacher must be familiar with various types of technology and how to utilize them within the classroom. A teacher must understand a program and its uses in order to create a plan that can actually be executed within the classroom and technology setting. Standard II is most represented by these plans because they show effective plan and design of lessons that incorporate technology. In order to write an effective technology-based lesson plan, many factors such as the standards, the abilities of the students, and the availability of technology must be taken into consideration. The unit plan shows the advance planning of objectives and technological materials, which are indicative of Standard II. The lesson plans also show how Mrs. Auler and myself integrated technology within the curriculum in order to enhance the learning experiences of our students. Standard III centers around the planning of such lessons that are meant to extend the experience of the students. The plans also exhibit methods of assessing and evaluating students, which is an example of Standard IV.
