The
Amaryllis
This year the first grade will be learning about plants. Lisa's Grandmother
donated an Amaryllis plant to the classroom at the start of the semester.
We decided to use the Amaryllis plant as a starting point for our unit.
Our objective was for the children to learn about plants while watching
one grow in the classroom. The students did not know what our bulb was
going to grow into. We used this opportunity for the students to do some
predicting. This was a lot of fun to hear their ideas about what they thought
it was going to grow in to.
As we began our exploration of plants, we used technology as a guide to
help enhance the children's learning. The children were able to use many
means of technology to build an support their learning about plants. We
incorporated technology into many of the lessons we completed on plants,
specifically the Amaryllis. To view the lessons and student work visit
the "Exhibits".
-
KIDPIX
was used to help the students illustrate their predictions of what they
thought the plant was going to grow in to.
-
The digital
camera was used to document the plants growth and to collect data for our
classroom book.
-
Inspiration
was used to help the students organize their thoughts about what they have
learned about plants, in particular the Amaryllis.
-
Microsoft
Word was used to help the students vocalize what they believed the bulb
was going to grow in to as well as a way to describe what was occurring
in each of our pictures of the plant for our book.
-
Microsoft
Power Point was used to create a slide show about our plant.
